"Getting Enough $leep"
Today, i came across a video on TED (TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less)) about the importance of sleep and how can getting enough sleep really affect your life in a big way. You may already know that and i do too, but it is always a struggle to manage our sleeping time. You say to yourself " I will sleep early today" and suddenly it is 3 am and you are still awake.... You wonder why you can not just shut your eyes and sleep but of course our brain would not let us. Many people listen to soft music and even take medication or do meditation ,but really the solution is easily found but hardly done. Your brain is set in a curtain way that it becomes used to you sleeping late and waking up late. It is a habit and if you didn't know already, it is a known fact that you can break or learn a habit within 30 days. so, you can't change your sleeping routine in one day. Your body and brain refuse it and you're too lazy to make a commitment to yourself to do that extra effort to a much better life.
so here is some realistic steps to do so:
1. Turn off any lights or at least turn them down, especially you mobile device and yes we are all guilty of checking our phones in bed but put it aside and maybe far so you're not tempted to reach it and tell yourself this
"I have had enough time on my phone all day, now it is the time for my body to rest and recharge 'I NEED TO SLEEP' i will get back to it when I'm fully rested and ready for another day"
2. Turn off your mind and by that i mean stop thinking too much about things that thinking about them would not do anything other than make you depressed, regretful, confused and not sleep. over thinking is the most useless thing we're all guilty of. One more thing, pray, a prayer can help a lot.
3. If you are used to sleep at 3 am and suddenly you're trying to sleep at 10 it wouldn't work. Start with one hour less , so go to sleep at 2 for five days then 1 and so on.
4. There are so many researches and videos about the importance of getting enough sleep and ways to do so. So go look them up, but don't forget to take ACTION.
Yes, you can manage your sleeping time by commitment. If you really want it, you will get it and if you don't get it, then you don't want it bad enough.
